I am currently pondering all this as I am in grad school and receiving student loans- have a bit of a debate on my blog. Not sure why the Fed can't just be the cosigner on a private loan, instead of all this hoopla. I say cosigner, since most people needing student loans don't have the money and credit to get a 50k loan! But it does seem they are just making more regulations that as you say are passing the costs on to the banks who will in turn pass them on to us. Interesting post, the gub-ment never gives something for nothing, that’s for sure.
