I was pretty bragadocious in my last post about how to drop pounds FAST, eh? Well here’s a follow up a lot of you health nuts will love. Some may even get to say “Told ya so” but whatev…
So the Atkins diet made me lose 12 pounds in a week. It also made me lethargic, irritable, and hungry. My insides didn’t feel right, my immune system was lowered (I missed 2 days of work after getting really sick with what should have been a light cold), and my chest actually hurt inside like I was having heart problems. All of this in ONE WEEK!
So I quit. I ate kinda normal, got a little more active, and I gained most of the weight back. In 2 days. Now, my net loss is more like 3 pounds. Not too impressive.
Moral of the story: Don’t do atkins unless you are near the very tail end of your weight loss competition. It sucks.

Well, I won’t say “I Told Ya So” but I am glad to hear that you’re feeling better. I wonder how that diet was so successful when it makes people feel like crap. Good luck with the rest of the competition.

And I told you so too! Do it my way bud! Eat 10 times your weight in calories, clean calories and exercise 3-4 times per week and you’ll see amazing results.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better, but I must say that everyone I know that has followed the Atkins diet properly has had excellent results. Yes, the 2 week intensive start makes you feel like crap, but it is also possible to keep the weight off and move back into a limited carb diet after 2 months or so, so you are happier and the weight stays off.
I guess it depends what your eating “kinda normal” entails…
But no worries, good for you for giving it a shot! Not every diet works for everyone! Sometimes, like Michael above mentions, a good old fashioned exercise regime works just as well! Good luck! :)

Chris, you’re not alone. A few years back, I was down to 185lbs. c/o a low card lifestyle. Now, I’m up to 230. I need to lose the weight, but the random chest pain at 23 years of age was too much for me to handle. It all freaked me the hell out! I also found that I had crazy headaches and would be super jumpy one minute, and ready to crash the next.
Maybe we should start a biggest loser of the SEM world?

Oh yeah, and good news… We’ll get a boat load of exercise Sunday afternoon jumping off the sofa every other minute to celebrate yet another Patriots touchdown…

Try South Beach. I typically lose about 15 – 20lbs the first two weeks which essentially cut out all starches and sugars (e.g. no pastas, breads, fruits, minimal dairy products). Once you get past 1st two weeks, you can incorporate whole wheats. It’s not too painful.

Man you dieting? I thought you were trying to get swole. Come on man what happen to the lunch time bench pressing contests we used to do and all the protein shakes you’d be downing in your office. So what, will you have a job for me if I move back to Az?

haha- used to get swoll. Now I’m fat.
And yes, I probably have a job for ya!

Atkins worked pretty well for me. Once you get past the “oh shit, I think I’m dying” stage, the weight continues to slowly come off — provided you are getting enough water, exercising, and supplementing with heart healthy nutrients.

no matter what diet you do, it is VERY important to take a daily multi vitamin, i learned that the hard way….blood transfusions and b-12 shots are no fun!

Right now me and my lady are just eating a little healthier and running when we can. Slowly but surely the weight is dropping, and my lifestyle is a little better!

Nice post buddy, couldn’t agree more. Weight loss is all about three simple things, mindset, diet and exercise
